16 Days of Activism

The Anglican Church of Australia supports 16 Days of activism to eliminate violence against women and girls. This is an international campaign, supported by the United Nations, that extends from 25 November (International Day for elimination of violence against women and girls) to 10 December (International human rights day).

Many organisations support this campaign, with the United Nations joining since 2009 with their UNITE by 2030 to End Violence against Women campaign. Since its inception, the 16 days have been used to inspire advocacy efforts by civil society, activists, governments, faith-based organisations and the UN system. Strategies used during the 16 days have included online petitions and social media campaigns, grassroots national awareness-raising initiatives, outreach in schools, engaging young people and faith-based organizations and garnering concrete national commitments from governments, and more. We join together over these 16 days to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

During the 16 days, we will be posting daily social media posts on our Facebook and Instagram platforms. These will include prayers for each Sunday of the Campaign (Days 2, 9 & 16).

You can join in these 16 days of activism in various ways:

1. Read and share our posts with people in your church.

2. Use our prayers in church each Sunday: 26th November, 3rd December and 10th December. The prayers are in posts 2, 9 & 16.

3. Become informed about how intimate partner violence can affect people of faith by reading our research papers.

4. Learn about the Churches Ten Commitments to prevent and respond to violence

5. Sign up for our monthly newsletter so that you will hear more throughout the year.
