Church makes Ten Commitments to prevent and respond to family violence affecting its members

In response to research findings into the prevalence and nature of intimate family violence affecting Australian Anglicans, the Anglican Church has developed and endorsed 10 Commitments to improve the way IPV is addressed within its faith community.  They are focused on cultural change, education, training and support.

National Anglican Family Violence Project

Anglican Church conducts first known national research into family violence within faith communities.

The Anglican Church of Australia has conducted Australia’s first known national research into family violence within faith communities.

The National Anglican Family Violence Project (NAFVP) investigated the prevalence, experience, and impact of family violence for those who identify as Anglicans in Australia.

Anglican Church of Australia appoints Family Violence Working Group

In 2017, the Primate Archbishop Phillip Freier and the Standing Committee of the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Australia established a Family Violence Working Group which led the churches response to family violence through undertaking the National Anglican Family Violence Research Project, bringing together diocesan representatives in several National Gatherings and drafting and bringing the churches Ten Commitments to Prevent and respond to Family Violence to our Synod Gathering in 2022. The Families and Culture Commission was established following this work.
