Day 1

The Anglican Church of Australia laments the shocking rates of violence against women throughout our nation and world

According to our 21-22 National Australian Census:

  • 1 in 4 women experienced violence by an intimate partner (23%)

  • 1 in 11 women experienced violence by a boyfriend, girlfriend, or date (9.3%)

  • 1 in 6 women experienced cohabiting partner violence (17%)

  • 1 in 4 women experienced cohabiting partner emotional abuse (23%)

  • 1 in 6 women experienced cohabiting partner economic abuse (16%)

Most men are not violent, but most violence comes from men.

We believe everyone is created in the image of God and is equally worthy of respect and opportunity.

We are saddened that physical and/or sexual violence, emotional harm, coercive control, and other forms of abuse, including spiritual abuse, are suffered by so many.

We are committed to preventing, intervening, responding to and to aiding healing for those impacted.

November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
