A prayer for women and girls everywhere

Almighty God

You created all women and we rejoice in their goodness and their calling to glorify you and to work for the flourishing of this world. We give thanks for all women of faith, whose lives are an example of this for us all, and for all the women of this world. Together they are diverse, gifted and indispensable image bearers of you, O God.

We grieve the impact of sin upon our world and the way this is seen in the mistreatment of so many women in our world. We grieve for those women and girls who are oppressed, violated, held back, and harassed. We grieve for our world where 1 in 3 women experience sexual or physical violence in their lifetimes.

The mistreatment of women and girls is a gross injustice that does not belong in the kingdom that Christ brought near to us all. It is not the way, truth or life we are all called to.

With your Spirit in us, may we work as your people to bring about a renewed world where women and girls no longer face disadvantages and inequality.

Renew the hope and calling of women and girls everywhere. Co-sharers in Christ’s victory. May they rise up in strength as on the wings of an eagle. That the whole world can truly flourish.

We ask this through Christ our Lord

Amen.
