16 Days of Activism 2026 Campaign: Building Respect
This will be the fourth year that the Anglican Church of Australia has created a faith-based communications campaign for our churches to aid in the prevention of domestic and family violence.
The United Nations encourages organisations around the world to undertake 16-days-of-activism against gender-based violence annually between 25 November 2026 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and 10 December 2026 (Human Rights Day), because gender-based violence is so prevalent at all levels of society around the world.
Research shows that domestic violence is driven by underlying issues such as attitudes, norms and stereotypes of male and female behaviour which we create and sustain. A communications campaign at our faith-based community level allows for reflection on our attitudes and behaviour, and discernment about which one’s lead to violence and which ones lead to respect and healthy relationships. The role of communication in bringing about behavioural change is pivotal and can contribute to positive life-changing outcomes for all. This year, the campaign is drawn from each of the commitments and statements which the church has made in our Ten Commitments to prevent and respond to domestic and family violence.
Joining in this campaign gives us all a small but powerful way to bring about change and to build toward the new heaven and new earth we read about in Revelation 21 & 22, where there will be no more curse, no more violence, no more tears.
Please raise awareness of domestic violence in our churches around Australia during this period by:
Showing the powerpoint slide at church which we’ve created for the campaign on November 23,30 and December 7th. (use the image in your printed bulletin if you don’t use slides)
Including a prayer for victims of gender-based violence in your services on 22, 29 November and/or 6 December
Adding an insert in your church bulletin or e-newsletter
'liking’' and sharing our campaign Facebook and Instagram posts and encourage others to do the same. Starting on Sunday 22nd November, we will be posting daily social media posts. These will include prayers for each Sunday of the Campaign.
